About PRES...
Prospect Road Elementary
(PRES) is a rural school that has served the communities along the Prospect Road since 1971. We offer English programming to 285 students from grades primary to five. Our enrollment remains steady and classes are at capacity. Ninety-nine percent of our children are bussed and stay for lunch.

Maintaining a positive, safe, and respectful environment where all of our students can reach their full potential continues to be a priority at PRES. Our school’s Positive Effective Behaviour System (PEBS) encourages positive social skill development and promotes student academic achievement. An emphasis is on teaching the skills necessary for appropriate decision-making and problem solving and students are encouraged to take responsibility for their thoughts and actions. A number of initiatives provide our students with an opportunity to practise these skills, such as our Peer Mediation program, PEBS gem program, DARE, CREATE, intramurals, and reading, math and technology buddies. Students, staff, parents, and visitors share in the responsibility of making our school a happy place to visit, volunteer, work, and learn.

We are committed to keeping the dreams of our students alive. We will provide our students with the tools necessary to conquer their challenges and instill a sense of pride that comes from accomplishing their goals. With the continued support of our families, and the positive involvement of our community partners, we can make this happen again this year.

In June 2011, we completed the third year of implementation in the Accreditation/ Planning for Improvement (PFI) process. We are pleased with the growth we made and, in the fall of 2011, will share our story of improved student achievement with representatives of the Department of Education. Our story is one of success and involves adopting an inquiry approach to teaching and learning; as our teaching practices change and improve to meet the needs of the students, student achievement improves. Recognizing this, teachers have engaged in professional learning opportunities specific to their needs and the needs of the students. Teachers have adopted the workshop model, instruction is differentiated, and the purpose of assessing students is directly linked to outcomes, teaching practices, and student learning. Since the implementation of our PFI Plan four years ago, the overall percentage of students experiencing success with our goals in Writing and Mathematics has increased.

We are confident our school will obtain provincial accreditation. We will provide updates throughout the year on our progress. For more information, or to view our plan, click on the PFI tab at the top of this page.
